When he’s not losing rap battles and sitting courtside at Toronto Raptors games, Drake has developed a propensity to drop big bucks on the odd big game, with mixed results following.
The Grammy-award-winning rapper has notably become known as something of a Grim Reaper when it comes to his big money moves across sports betting platforms, with a now infamous “Drake Curse” said to confound any team Drizzy drops a couple hundred bands on.
His latest victim? The Toronto Maple Leafs, who Drake lost $1 million last week after an embarrassing 6-1 loss on home ice to the Florida Panthers, who now appear poised to reach the Stanley Cup Final for the 3rd consecutive season.
Fan Backlash To Drake
Despite the fan backlash that seems to have followed Drake wherever he puts down his money, the Toronto native isn’t all that moved by the allegations that he’s somehow become a harbinger of doom.
"I feel like I don't play sports," Drake said in an Instagram video in conjunction with Stake, who the rapper is partnered with for betting. "Whether I picked the wrong team or not — if I could get out there and win for all your favorite teams, I would."
"The Drake Curse is funny to me, honestly. First of all, the Raptors won a championship, so nobody could ever talk to me about the Drake Curse," he added. "The Toronto Raptors are NBA Champions. If there was a Drake Curse, Kawhi would’ve never hit that shot, we would’ve never beat the Warriors.
“There is no Drake curse, but it’s funny, though."
Does the Drake Curse exist?
While Drake seems to deny the curse, the evidence for its existence seems to be particularly strong, though not irrefutable.
With a full website documenting the ups and downs of Drake’s betting career, the 38-year-old is reportedly in the green all-time on his public sports bets, though 2025 hasn’t been kind to him as he’s down nearly $600k since January.
Even more notably, according to the website, Drake is down a whopping $2.74 million since Kendrick Lamar released Euphoria on April 30, 2024, the song that ultimately launched the pair’s beef that ended with Lamar performing the ultra-viral Not Like Us at the Halftime Show of LIX.
